A Cool Spot
9.17.09 | “Who knew the library had laptops? Who knew the library had a studio?” Chicago teens have been flocking to the new space at the Harold Washington Library to use computers, play video games, work on school projects and just hang out. Spotlight checked in with them here with the help of the Digital Youth Network.
Shon and Megan have been using the digital music studio. Watch them behind the scenes.
Fifteen-year-old Alice from New Zealand says the space’s green color reminds her of learning. She’s happy now not to have to share a computer with her mom.
“There was this place where you could actually go into a library and actually record music, chill, go on the internet, look up information, do papers. ... it was very inviting,” Darius says.
Tatiana is happy to have a place that’s her own to go after school. “I used to have to stay after school in the writing center,” she says. “because at home I don’t have computer access.” Watch Darius & Tatiana discuss the advantages of having such a space in their community.
