Spotlight on Digital Media And Learning

The second Digital Media and Learning Competition closed last week. We received another groundswell of applications from the field, including those from “Young Innovators,” as well as from projects in ten pilot countries eligible to submit stand-alone applications this year.  Stay tuned for the winners of this year’s Competition in April of 2009. 

In the meantime, it’s a great occasion to reflect on the progress of the exciting projects supported under the first Digital Media and Learning Competition. First up is Howard Rheingold‘s Social Media Classroom, a public collaboratory space for educators and learners interested in using social media.  As HASTAC’s Sheryl Grant writes, the Social Media Classroom is a tool for students and educators to “co-mingle participatory learning with social media,” and join a community of practice.
