Spotlight on Digital Media And Learning

Thank you to all involved in the public forum we hosted in Boston, and a special thank you to Howard Gardner, Katie Salen and Henry Jenkins.  It was a lively conversation with great involvement from the audience.  We hope it helps in advancing the current consideration of digital media, learning and youth development beyond good versus bad to a more “ecological approach” (as Katie discussed) that considers not only the direct relation between tools and young people, but as importantly, the role of friends, family, industry, and larger society.  For more, check out Global Kids’ collection of media from the event—including others’ comments about the event, hear the podcast, or view the webcast of the event.

I also want to say thanks again to all those involved in the MacArthur Series on Digital Media and Learning.  Monterey Institute of Technology, New Media Consortium, Blueprint Research and Design, Global Kids and MIT Press were all instrumental in managing the complicated process of engaging over 56 authors, six editors, a youth advisory group, and an advisory committee in a networked and public approach to scholarship.  The books are available from The MIT Press and Amazon and individual articles can be downloaded here.
