As parents, we have to figure out how we want to raise our children in a world where kids are interacting with each other in new digital spaces. Palfrey says some of the same commonsense parenting adages should still apply: set limits and adjust over time. What’s right for a six-year-old is not right for an eleven-year-old or a sixteen-year-old. Palfrey recommends building a connection around digital media with your children early on – this is something parents and kids can talk about and do together. Parents who say ‘do it on your own’ are missing an important opportunity for engagement with their kids.
