Hack, Build, Create: Develop Your Mobile App for Learning with Startl’s Design Boost
7.29.10 | If you’re a budding entrepreneur or a designer with a new idea brewing for a mobile application for learning, now’s your chance to make it a reality.
Startl, a public-private partnership that aims to accelerate the development of digital media and learning products, is now accepting applications for its November 2010 Mobile Design Boost.
In partnership with IDEO, Startl selects 15 teams with an innovative idea and offers them a four-day “building, hacking, business and human centered design immersion” to develop the prototype, audience and business plan needed to take it to market.
Organizers are focusing on innovations in mobile applications for learning, specifically targeting Android, iPhone, Symbian and BlackBerry platforms.
“We’re making this the focus because there’s a serious lack of high-quality mobile applications for learning and education on the market, so there’s a massive opportunity to make a difference and make your mark,” explains Startl.
Two participating companies from Startl’s prior design boost—Launchpad Toys and Project NOAH (Networked Organisms and Habitats)—did just that. Both companies received recognition as finalists for the Cooney Center Prizes for Innovation in Children’s Learning.
The boost will take place in San Francisco, Nov. 11 -14. The program itself is free, but applicants are responsible for travel and lodging costs. Apply here. And here’s the must read for potential applicants.
