2.7.08 | Digital Innovations Group, through its partner Games for Change, continues its unique work in creating a social networking and learning space for the emerging field of Digital Media and Learning.  This new knowledge network provides a shared resource base and community of practice for the academics, practitioners and related communities who are engaged in the primary research and project-based collaborations that define this burgeoning discipline.

The Spotlight Blog was the fundamental first step in the knowledge network’s development and will continue to play a key role as part of the knowledge network’s discussion area.  Spotlight discussions augment the knowledge network’s efficacy as a leadership platform, providing a public arena for grantees and other field-members to share their perspectives, frame and support the key areas of debate, and engage a wider audience in the discussion.

Seeded from the fertile ground of the Spotlight Blog, the knowledge network’s core features take shape. Through networked profiles, an annotated community calendar and an extensive resource directory, as well as specialized tools for private discussions and comprehensive content indexing, individuals and institutions now have a central hub to document, exchange and comment on the work of the field.  Designed through a flexible and collaborative process by the community, including some of the top experts in online community-building, the highly customized knowledge network serves and adapts to its constituents needs as the field evolves.

In the coming year, our strategic emphasis shifts from technology development to outreach and community management; supporting activities include editorial programming and exploration of content syndication with academic and cultural partners engaged in Digital Media and Learning. A dedicated team of staff and advisers will engage the knowledge network’s core audience to enrich resources, encourage meaningful exchange and provide catalysts for collaboration, as well as showcase the emerging field for a broader public.
