Teach, Invent, Hack: Register Now for Mozilla’s Drumbeat Festival

8.26.10 | Registration is now open for Mozilla’s first annual Drumbeat Festival: Learning, Freedom and the Web, Nov. 3 - 5 in Barcelona.

Behind the Research

The festival will highlight the ideas, people and projects that are shaping the future of learning.

Join Creative Commons CEO Joi Ito, Brenda Gourley, former vice chancellor and president of the UK’s The Open University, Bre Pettis, a founder of Makerbot and NYCResistor, and other teachers, learners and technologists from around the world for “three days of making, teaching, hacking, inventing and shaping the future of education and the web.”

Participants are invited to propose ideas for the conference program, which organizers describe as like a “folk festival with many different tents.”

Conference spaces will include studios, labs and classrooms where attendees can teach, learn and invent. The festival promises a “hackerspace playground,” an “open-source classroom” and a “peer-learning fishbowl,” where participants can test online courses, invent and remix new tools, and share content for learning in the classroom and beyond.

Check out the growing wiki pages for a list of confirmed activities, and read what others are proposing for the conference. You can also organize an ad-hoc group or sign up to volunteer. Limited scholarships for conference registration and travel are available.

The festival is organized in partnership with Creative Commons, The MacArthur Foundation and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
