Early Days of Competition Draw Crowd
Cathy Davidson and David Theo Goldberg of HASTAC (www.hastac.org) report in on the interest generated by the launch of the Digital Media and Learning Competition last week. The Competition will award $2 million in funding to emerging leaders, communicators, and innovators shaping the field of digital media and learning.

Knowledge-Networking is one of the categories in the Digital Media and Learning Competition (see www.dmlcompetition.net) and we are very pleased to report that, a little over a week into the Competition, the HASTAC/MacArthur outreach network is alive and well. If you Google us, you will find that the Competition has been blogged and list serv’d more times than anyone has the energy to count. And according to Google’s statistics, once people learn about the Competition through their favorite blogs and list servs, they check it out. We’ve had over 9,000 “absolute unique visitors” - approximately 1000 new visits per day on average. What makes us even happier is that we’ve had over 51,000 pageviews, with the average visitor viewing 4.42 pages and staying on the site 6:33 minutes. That’s an eon in internet time. There’s excitement, interest, attention. And even though this year’s Competition is aimed at the U.S., we’ve had visitors from 93 countries. We’ve tapped a World Wide Knowledge Web. We’re very, very pleased. Obviously we are keen to translate these numbers into a vigorous application pool.
Editor’s Note: Cathy discussed the competition on the MediaSnackers podcast last week. Click here to listen.
